Regrets Hang Like Kites

Stapleton is a band from Scotland I 'accidently' discovered last summer because someone used the intro of one of their tracks in a YouTube video. After hearing 20 seconds of the song, I instantly liked what I heard and I just needed to find more. Eventhough their music seems very hard to find on the web, I finally got a hold of the first 7 tracks of their latest full-release: Hug The Coast.

Stapleton's sound might remind you of other indie-rock acts like Matt Pond PA and sometimes even the more widely known Death Cab For Cutie. Nothing boundary-breaking really, just plain simple indie-rock songs that I think everyone can enjoy.
I guess there must have been something wrong with their distribution managing though, because this band is playing since 1997, has made 3 albums, had great reviews, toured alot with some known bands, but still has few listeners, although it's actually quite accessible music.
Anyhoo, I'm planning to buy 'Hug The Coast' myself soon, because I believe that this band needs more respect and approval for their work and might need a little boost.
Here are 2 songs from their album 'Hug The Coast' (2005):

Stapleton - Happy Homes And The Hearts That Make Them
Stapleton - Ships Of The North Atlantic

Joakim saves!

...that is, of course, if you believe in the mystical healing powers of great electronic music, like we do.
As a producer, DJ and labelmanager (of Tigersushi), this man definitly is one of the hardest working human beings populating our planet. And as we all know, hard work (eventually) pays off.

Joakim's tracks contain some of the most creative and versatile sounds I've heard recently. If you like top notch electro à la Booka Shade, there's a fair chance you'll like this stuff. If your heart pounds in ecstasy while hearing Nathan Fake-ish minimal, be my guest and give mr. Joakim a try.

More info and sounds on his official MySpace

And of course a little treat for all you fine people:

Joakim - Cotton Gun
Antena - Camino del Sol (Joakim remix)

Take Time For The Books

Last Friday I went to see the experimental indietronica duo The Books here in Leuven citteh. A Dutch guy and a New Yorker making beautiful music with voice-samples, some kind of drumreplacing tickingmachine-computerthingie, a cello and a guitar.
Behind them was a moviescreen showing ecletic videos perfectly synched to the rythm and the sound of the music. Although sometimes it all felt a little bit too orchestrated, the show was very intimate and worth watching (but damn those seats hurt).
The Books have already made 3 albums with some fine tracks on them and since they are now touring through Europe, it might be the perfect time for you to go check them out before they return to the US.
More info about The Books on their Myspace or either on their official website.
And of course some sweet tracks for you:

The Books - Smells Like Content
The Books - Take Time
The Books - That Right Ain't Shit
